London Bound is the second book from Photographer Mark Varley.

His first book in partnership with John Grinter, 'Beautiful Bondage, the art of rope bondage, Volume One' was a hybrid of fine art photography, decorative rope bondage and a step-by-step guide.

London Bound is an artistic study, in the first half of 2007 I took rope bondage into the homes of real London women, many were trying rope bondage for the first time, this book is the result of this project. Over 200 pages of stunning bondage photography.

Rope bondage, shibari, kinbaku, we use various names for it, and I love it. My earliest memory of rope bondage was probably playing with my ‘action man’ after he got tangled up in his parachute. Later, when I was around 15 or 16, I was regularly using rope to tie partners to the bed, infact my first flat had ropes permanently attached to the bed! I’ve been playing with rope on people for a long time.
Around 2004 I was looking for something new to include in my fine-art nudes photography, I’d been doing it a while and it was time for a major new ingredient, I decided to try including rope bondage for the texture and shapes it brings, ‘Beautiful Bondage’ was born and I started taking the aesthetics of my bondage much more seriously.
I moved to London in 2006 and I was rigging, sometimes for photography, sometimes not, a few times a week. I was finding my bondage photography was becoming ‘sterile’, working with professional models and photographing in studios, I wanted some realism back, I decided to take my bondage out of the studio and away from models, ‘London Bound’ is the result.
These are all real women, in London, in their own homes, most of them had little experience of bondage and a few of them had never been tied up before. All of them enjoyed the experience and gained alot from it, you can read their thoughts in the book, a few of them are now regularly restrained in rope.
I have many books in my home, a few of them mine, many of them not, ‘London Bound’ is one I often reach for and flick through, I just love it, if it was someone elses work it’s just the kind of book I’d want to own, I hope you will feel the same about your copy.
